Michael O'Leary

Senior Specialist in Intensive Care, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney Medical Director, NSW Organ & Tissue Donation Service

Michael O’Leary trained in anaesthesia in the United Kingdom and then in intensive care in Australia. He has worked as a Specialist in Intensive Care Medicine since 1999, initially at The St George Hospital, Sydney, and from 2008 at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney.  Michael has had a longstanding interest in organ donation and transplantation, and in 2014 he was appointed Co-State Medical Director of the New South Wales Organ and Tissue Donation Service.

Previously, Michael completed his MD degree at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, UK with studies into the metabolic response to sepsis and use of glutamine and growth hormone in the amelioration of catabolism. Michael is a former President of the Australian & New Zealand Intensive Care Society and was previously a member of the Council of the Asia-Pacific Association of Critical Care Medicine, an ESICM Council member and a member of the Council of the Global Sepsis Alliance.
