Melissa Villerot

Melissa Villerot, DNP, MSN, RN, AGCNS-BC, has practiced in healthcare for 18 years starting as a volunteer, then working as a Nursing Assistant, Student Nurse Associate, Registered Nurse, and Clinical Nurse Specialist. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, she served as an expert in diabetes management and glycemic control, led efforts around safe patient handling and mobility, and supported efforts to reduce patient falls.

Currently, Melissa practices as the Director for Nursing Quality Outcomes and Professional Practice at a large, community teaching hospital in the state of Michigan in the US. In this role, Melissa develops and directs nursing quality improvement efforts toward a goal of zero harm, focusing primarily on the reduction of patient falls, pressure injuries, and hospital-acquired infections. She also provides leadership for the nursing professional practice environment including the ongoing development and engagement of shared governance models, the implementation of nursing research and evidence-based practice, and direct oversight of the Clinical Nurse Specialist and Wound Care teams. She is also a certified Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt.

Melissa graduated with a Bachelor of Science & Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan, Dearborn, and obtained her BSN, MSN, and DNP degrees from Michigan State University, where she also currently serves as an assistant professor in the DNP program. Melissa loves sharing her knowledge and learning from others and finds joy in being able to teach whenever possible.
