Emergency Physicians with a specialist interest in orthopaedic emergencies

Dr Sayal is an Emergency Physician, with a specialist interest in orthopaedics, at North York General Hospital in Toronto, Canada. He is the founder of the CASTED Course and has presented over 250 ED orthopaedic workshops and received over a dozen teaching awards.

Dr Matt DiStefano is an Emergency Physician (with additional surgical training) and one of the lead educators on the CASTED Course. He is also a ski instructor, race car instructor and music enthusiast.

Course Summary

The purpose of this activity is to provide learners with knowledge and competence in the assessment and management of musculoskeletal injuries in emergency situations. Focusing on patients with acute MSK injuries and covering all major limb joints, this emergency orthopaedics course looks at assessment, diagnosis and care. It consists of 12 lectures, plus multi-camera tutorials, covering all major practical examination, reduction and immobilisation techniques
